How would you like to look and feel amazingโwithout a complicated skincare routine? If that sounds like your kind of self care, then keep reading. Today Iโm going to share exactly how I use self care with essential oils in a way thatโs simple, effective, and totally doableโeven on your busiest days.
At Susanโs Soaps & More, we believe in natural beauty, powered by nature and handcrafted with love. That means using essential oils to nurture your skin, lift your mood, and support your overall well-being. You donโt need a dozen products or a 10-step regimen. Just a few thoughtfully chosen tools can make a world of difference.
Letโs dive into how you can easily incorporate self care with essential oils into your daily routine.
Step 1: A Simple Essential Oil Routine for Face Care
The first place most people start with essential oils is skincareโand for good reason. Essential oils offer powerful natural benefits for your face and body. My own morning selfcare routine for my face is quick, natural, and incredibly effective. Choosing to practice selfcare with essential oils makes it easy to personalize your routine because you can choose what essential oils you want to use.
In the mornings, I usually just rinse my face with warm water. If I feel like I need a little extra cleansing, Iโll use my Carrot Seed Complexion Bar. Then, I pat dry and apply a face serum. Itโs as simple as dabbing a bit on my finger, smoothing it onto my skin, and repeating about four or five times to cover my whole face. Before I turned 50 I used my Susan’s Own Face Serum and then after 50 thru to present day I use my Anti-Aging Face Serum.
Incorporating self care with essential oils into your routine can be incredibly rewarding.
One essential oil I highly recommend for facial care is carrot seed essential oil. Itโs fantastic for mature skin, adult acne, and general skin tone and texture. Carrot seed is rich in antioxidants and offers all-around rejuvenating benefitsโmaking it a key ingredient in any effective, natural face serum including both of mine.
Step 2: Moisturizing the Body with Essential Oil Body Oils

Next up is caring for your body. After showering or whenever my skin feels dry, I reach for a body oil made with essential oils. Oils absorb beautifully into the skin and provide long-lasting hydration, without the preservatives you often find in commercial lotions (which are necessary in water-based products to prevent bacteria growth).
When choosing essential oils for your body, stick with gentle, soothing options. The following are essential oils that work well for including a body oil:
- Lavender
- Chamomile
- Frankincense
- Clary Sage
Avoid stronger oils like cinnamon or peppermint for all-over body use, as they can be too stimulating or even irritating in high concentrations.

Pro tip: Always dilute essential oils properlyโabout a 2% ratio is ideal. More isnโt better. Essential oils are powerful, and using them safely ensures their benefits without any irritation.
Step 3: Donโt Forget the Lips!
I finish my morning self-care ritual with an all-natural lip balm, usually with a bit of peppermint or tea tree oil. Minty oils are especially invigorating and can help boost focusโperfect for starting your day off on the right note.
Self Care With Essential Oils Int Your Home
Self care with essential oils doesnโt stop at skincare. One of the easiest (and most enjoyable) ways to benefit from essential oils is to surround yourself with their scent. Think of it as creating a mini spa right in your home.
Some effortless ways to do this:
- Shower with essential oil soaps or shampoos in scents you love.
- Use shampoo bar with rosemary, a fantastic oil for scalp and hair health.
- Mist a peppermint spritzer around your space for a quick refresh and energy boost. Ours even doubles as a hand sanitizer!
Customers also love our solid lotion bars, especially in peppermint. Not only are they perfect for moisturizing on the go, but the scent can help with headaches and nausea, too.
Elevating Mood and Mindset with Essential Oils

Tapping into self care with essential oils, you can easily elevate your mood. Essential oils can support both your mental and emotional well-being. Whether you need energy, focus, or relaxation, there’s an essential oil that can help:
- Peppermint or spearmint โ Great for focus, clarity, and staying alert.
- Frankincense or sandalwood โ Wonderful for grounding and calming nerves during stressful moments.
- Rose oil โ My go-to for winding down at night. I apply a drop (diluted, of course) to the back of my neck to help me relax and sleep more deeply.
A quick sniff of a bottle, dabbing on your pulse points, or diffusing in your space are all simple ways to enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils.
Stay Safe & Get Started the Right Way
Remember self care with essential oils should always be done safely. Here a some rules to keep in mind:
- Always dilute essential oils before applying them to your skin (a 2% dilution is typically safe and effective).
- Stick with gentle, well-known oils like lavender, chamomile, and frankincense.
- Never apply essential oils in large amounts or use undiluted oils over wide areas of the body.
