Trunk show at Indigo 1745
Last night Indigo 1745 had me in for a great little trunk show. Indigo 1745 is a wonderful women and men’s clothing store that also carries wonderful unique jewelry, personal care products and of course our product line, Susan’s Soaps & More. There were a group of women who had won a raffle item donated by the store for a great girl’s night out with a trunk show by us, great refreshments provided by the store and a private shopping hour in the store. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed meeting all of the women who I think had a great time. Indigo 1745′ >Indigo 1745
Tuesday is Soap Day (or at least the 1st day)
A number of people seem to be interested in what a soapmaker does. So to answer that I am going to be chronicling my typical week for soapmaking. Usually Tuesdays is when I melt the oils and the lye solution ready for any soap that we will make that week. The soapmaking consumes a good part of Tuesday and Wednesday and some of Thursday. Fridays and Mondays I try to spend on paperwork and computerwork – bookkeeping, website updates, blog updates, email catchup, etc. The things that all businesses have to do in some measure or other. On Monday or even the previous week I should have already decided what specific soaps I am going to make because I need to be sure that I have all of my materials on hand: oils, lye, essential oils, botanicals, etc. I also need to have decided whether I am making a full block (180 bars) or a 1/2 block (90) bars of each particular soap. This is a judgement call based on our current inventory, outstanding orders and general rate of sales for that particular scent. Unfortunately, my crystal ball never works very well and sometimes I guess wrong. We run short…
Liquid Soap
Working on creating liquid soap. It feels like when I was just starting with cold process. It is a whole different process and although some people seem to feel it’s easy it is taking me a while to learn. The most difficult part is getting the consistency right while creating a clear soap. I do like the way the essential oils smell in the liquid soap. You add them towards the end of the process so in some ways they smell even better than in cold process soap. We have one small test batch that I am happy with but we aren’t creating it consistently yet. Need to keep on testing.
